San Donato in Poggio

San Donato is a small medieval village at the top of a hill. The town is small but it still conserves its medieval heritage. The heart of the town is still surrounded by the defensive walls built in the 12th century and along the western edge a watch tower still stands.

This is the nearest village from our Farmhouse. In San Donato you will find the nearest Supermarket, as well an ATM, a Pharmacy and a Laundry.

How to reach:

By Walk: 20 minutes by a magnificent path in the woods starting from our vineyard. The route is short and suitable for everyone. Recommended for those who want to take a walk, perhaps with the family, which can end with a nice ice cream in the town of San Donato

By Car: 5 minutes

What to see:

Palazzo Malaspina is the most important palace of San Donato, inside there are often temporary art exhibitions.

Pieve, main church of San Donato in Poggio

Where to eat:

Palazzo Malaspina: Best pizza you can find in Chianti (our opinion). Beautiful terrace and they also make fantastic fish dishes. Highly reccomended, but you need the reservation!

La taverna di Ciccino: Think about the most stereotypical italian pizza guy that you can imagine... that's Ciccino! Little resturant cozy and loud, a truly italian experience. They make pizza in the "north italian way" (thin pizza)

La Toppa: Do you want to eat the most massive "Calzone" that you ever seen? This is the right place! We highly recomend you to tase the "melted sheep cheese" antipasto!

Locanda di Pietracupa: One of the best restaurants in the area, revisited and incredible typical dishes. We recommend it but be careful of the price, it's very expensive!
